These rules apply to the Roleplaying forums. They are intended to keep the quality of posts high, and basically make for a good roleplay
-All general rules
-No criticism of others' posts
-Make posts relevant
-No godmodding
-No unlikely events
-Always post 3+ sentences
-Posts should be in third person
-Strive to have correct grammar and spelling
Criticising others' posts is unneeded. Assuming they follow all forum rules, all players are respected and should be free to express themselves in their own personal style.
Making posts relevant means making sure they have something to do with current events. For example, suddenly telling a story about a lost princess in the middle of a huge battle might be interesting, but wouldn't be particularly relevant to what's taking place at the moment.
Godmodding is where you control other people's activities. It is highly frowned upon, as it takes control of events from them. Roleplaying means you have a role, and you should stick to it.
Unlikely events are when something highly improbable happens. An example would be, following a huge storyline, saying 'And suddenly he woke up. It was all a dream!' Doing this sort of thing can change the entire roleplay in an instant, which probably wouldn't be a good thing.
Always posting 3+ sentences will ensure that the quality of your posts remains high. Posts under three sentences generally lack detail, and tend to interrupt the story's flow. A pair of examples: to illustrate this:
Ex. 1: "Yarran wakes up and gets out of bed. He feels refreshed."
Ex. 2: "Yarran slowly opened his sleep-bleary eyes. The plaster ceiling above him is water-stained and full of cracks, but after living here for several months he doesn't notice them.
Making his muscles, still relaxed from his sleep, do what he wants them to takes rather more effort than he would normally want to expend at the early hour. However, the circumstances merit rising in the predawn hours. Sliding out of his blankets, Yarran stretches and yawns. He smells the men outside cooking meat on their campfires, and hears a muted mumble of talking. He feels refreshed and ready for the long day ahead."
As you can see, the second one says in seven sentances what the first one says in just two. The details make for a richer experience when you read it.
Posts should also be in third person. Third person is the point of view of a floating camera, watching but not part of the action. Using *action* to denote things happening is NOT needed in third person. Instead, you tell what happens. Examples:
"*gets out of bed* ahhhh I feel relaxed! *Stretches*"
"Yarran gets out of bed, and says 'Ahh I feel relaxed!' He then stretches."
The first example is what *not* to do, and the second is what *to* do.
Finally, correct grammar and spelling make it easier and more enjoyable for everyone. Which would you rather read:
"wat do u want 4 it he asks"
-OR-
"'What do you want for it,' he asks."
Thanks for taking the time to read all that
