Matt quietly follows Yarran, back to his farmyard, and dives behind a bush. "Read it goddamnit read it" he mutters, as if this matter were one of life and death, which it was.

Yarran arrives at his farmhouse, failing to notice an oddly rustling bush a few meters from his door. He steps inside, and hangs up his coat on a peg by the door. "Ahh, home sweet home," he sighs to himself. His aging mother comes out of the kitchen, and kisses him goodnight.
As he lights his candle and prepares to head for his bed in the loft, he hears what sounds like a cracked voice moaning 'read it, read it dammit!' from outside. This reminds him of the scrap of parchment secreted in his coat pocket. Taking it out, he closely reads it...

"Yaran, it is a time of great worry and death, where i come from there are widespread killings, and murders, for one thing, but i do not know what i is. I'm sorry for the way i spoke to you in the bar, i could not let anyone know who i was. The reason i tell you this, is because i've heared great things about you.. and... i wondered if you could helpme find this 'thing' so many people are getting killed for"

As he finishes the letter, he realizes that the person outside was probably Matt. He opens the farmhouse door quietly, so as not to disturb his mother, and slips out into the pitch-black night.
"So you have an adventure for me, eh? Well I've never been able to pass one up yet. Especially when it seems lives and livelyhoods are on the line! If my reputation is great enough for me to be found here in Rockhaven, I shall have to uphold it, won't I?"
He reaches out into the dark to shake Matt's hand.
"Count me in."

"Oh, I'm no stranger to fighting," Yarran responds to Matt. "I've been on many quests, and killed untold monsters. But a waterskin? I don't know as I could handle that... It sounds heavy..."
He suddenly grins, walks out to his stable in the light of his candle, and returns carrying a long bundle.
"I do have here my sword, given to me by one Julian. It's been my trusty companion for years now, and I will certainly bring it along. To the desert, or wherever we are going."

"For now, we must rest, tommrow we will begin our journey. I think we should set of early, before the monsters are awake. we need to get as much as a head start as possible. For if we don't, we will most certinaly die"

"I shall defer to you in this, Matt, as you clearly know the terrain better than I do. One last question before I go to bed, from what people do you come? Surely not the storied People of the Desert?"

"That is right, Yerran. i am one of only 20 people left in the desert, that is why i cannot stand bloodshed no more, that is why i ask of you. the "Thing" we seek lies far underneath the ground"

"I am greatly intriegued. You must tell me more, as we journey. For now, I shall be needing some rest. Meet you at the Ardenia Tavern just before sunrise."
He heads out of the chill night air and into the farmhouse, closing and locking the door as he does so. Dekamalaian soldiers were sometimes a problem in the area. He takes off his boots, climbs the ladder to the loft, and falls asleep in his bed. Dreams of the upcoming adventure fill his head.
